Michelle Wijnant

Michelle Wijnant is a reliable and client-focused professional who fully understands that the complex topics that make her heart beat faster are not everyone’s cup of tea. Michelle is able, however, like no other, to use patience and a touch of humor to communicate even the driest legal material in a clear and understandable way, which makes her an excellent lawyer.

Education and career

After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in Law from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2013, Michelle followed an intensive course in Cambridge English (Advanced) in preparation for her Master’s degree in Law and Technology from Tilburg University. The international character of this English-language master’s program provided her with valuable insights into the worldwide cross-border legal aspects of privacy, information security and intellectual property rights. After her studies, Michelle specialized further in this field. She completed the specialization course (senior) IT lawyer in 2018, obtained multiple certificates (CISM, CIPP/E, CIPM and CIPT) in the field of privacy and security, and followed various courses (including Certified Information Systems Auditor).

She started her career in 2016 as a legal advisor at a legal consultancy firm in the field of IT law, where she developed into a senior legal advisor and trainer/course leader. She then worked as a privacy and information security coordinator for two Dutch ministries. Michelle joined De Clercq in June 2021.

Michelle’s daily practice

“Within the IT, IP & Privacy team at De Clercq I mainly deal with issues in the field of privacy law, information security and intellectual property law. I work on the cutting edge of information technology and (international) law and I find that very interesting. In a world where we are functioning more and more online and where developments follow each other in rapid succession, it is important for organizations to be able to make well-considered, risk-orientated choices and to be well prepared for future developments. The same applies to complying with and protecting the intellectual property rights to creations, brands, designs, models and trade names, among other things. As a specialized lawyer, I do not only advise clients on how to optimally protect their own rights, but also on how to deal with those of the parties involved, in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
