Karen Helbers is known for her resourcefulness and creativeness in answering labour-law questions.
Education and career
Karen started her career in the property sector, where she alternated for twelve years between various legal and non-legal positions. ‘At some stage’, she obtained her first-year diploma in Dutch law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Karen joined De Clercq in 2002 as a legal secretary and became a paralegal in 2009. Since then, Karen has specialised in labour law and continued to study despite her busy work schedule. And successfully too: in 2013, she obtained her higher professional diploma in law.
Karen’s daily practice
‘Since coming to work for De Clercq, I have built up all-round experience within labour law. I can therefore give you sound advice on a range of matters, varying from employment contracts and collective bargaining agreements to reorganisations and the role of work councils. I also support the lawyers of the Employment, Employee Participation & Pensions practice group at all levels of this exciting area of the law. Lastly, I am also the editor of our Labour Law Newsletter, which is sent to more than 450 subscribers every two weeks.’
