Janbert Heemstra is a broadly educated civil-law notary. Although he has a particular affinity for young entrepreneurs and start-ups, he is also keen to use his expertise as an adviser to established businesses.
Education and career
After completing his degree in notarial law at the University of Groningen, Janbert started his career as a junior civil-law notary at Houthoff Buruma. In 2004, he completed a specialist course in Financing & Securities cum laude at the Grotius Academy. Two years later, Janbert took up employment at De Clercq, where he has been a civil-law notary and partner since 2008. In 2009, Janbert attended the Master Course in Tax Aspects of Property at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Besides being a civil-law notary, Janbert has lectured in property law, VAT and transfer tax at Stichting Beroepsopleiding Notariaat, a foundation that provides vocational training for the notarial profession, since 2002.
Janbert’s daily practice
‘As a notary, I have specialised in property. This means that I deal mainly with the many legal aspects of property transactions, property development, building contracts, financing and securities. I also advise housing corporations. Although my work requires in-depth knowledge of various areas of the law, that is what keeps my job extremely interesting.’
