Barbara van Dam is an enthusiastic paralegal who is passionate about employee participation. She likes being able to take a peek behind the scenes in different businesses to examine issues relating to employee participation law.
Education and career
After studying German language and literature, Barbara started her career as a secretary at a large law firm that specialised in business law. She joined De Clercq in 2002, initially as a legal secretary, and progressed to paralegal in 2010. In this role, Barbara supports lawyers and clients in all aspects of labour law, particularly in the area of employee participation. She also prepares publications, presentations and courses. Despite her busy work schedule, Barbara also resumed her studies. And not without success: in 2013, she obtained her bachelor degree in law at Leiden University.
Barbara’s daily practice
‘Within our labour law team, I am very experienced in employee participation. During my studies, I participated in research on how works councils function. I have also been involved in the establishment of several works councils, served as an active member of various works councils, and chaired a participation council. I am therefore well placed, both from a theoretical and practical perspective, to advise you on all facets of employee participation.’
