As a client once described her, Renée Huijsmans is pragmatic and to the point: a perfect fit for De Clercq in other words. Because of her willingness to listen and genuine interest in your case, Renée can readily put herself in your shoes, which makes her an ideal sparring partner.
Education and career
Renée studied law at Maastricht University, eventually choosing to major in Civil Law. During her studies, she actively volunteered at the Children and Youth Legal Advice Centre in Maastricht. Renée has been working as a lawyer and legal adviser since 2009. She brought her wealth of practical experience to De Clercq in 2016, and is a strong addition to the team. Within labour law, Renée has specialised in various subareas, including employee participation law, reorganisations and individual and collective dismissals. In 2015, she successfully completed a specialist course in Labour Law at Radboud University Nijmegen.
Renée’s daily practice
‘Within the Employment, Employee Participation & Pensions practice group, I focus mainly on individual and collective dismissal law. I can also give you excellent advice on matters relating to employment contracts, employment conditions, incapacity for work, unsatisfactory performance and the labour-law aspects of reorganisations. I have extensive experience in advising within education and the government, and regularly represent works councils and directors in employee participation law matters. I am also a member of De Clercq’s Works Councils Act team – which specialises in employee participation – and its education team.’
